The 2022 edition of the ICC Under-19 World Cup is currently underway in the West Indies. One of the top stars of the tournament is Dewald Brevis who is a member of the South African U-19 cricket team. Many members of the cricket universe feel that he is a mini version of former South African cricket team captain AB de Villiers.
Brevis can be a big name in the Indian Premier League if given the right amount of backing. Not many bowlers of the IPL have played against him, which could be an advantage. Earlier today, the organizers of the Indian Premier League released the full list of players who have made it to the final list of the mega auction.
Interestingly, one of the names is Brevis who has never played in the IPL nor played international cricket at the senior level. It will be exciting to see which team signs him. Incidentally, Brevis wears jersey number 17 like AB de Villiers. Here’s what he had to say about it:
“AB was always my role model. He wore the number 17 jersey. I just looked up to that. Then I asked AB if I can carry that number 17 on my back and then he said “You’re welcome”. So it’s a big honor for me to wear that jersey.”
