Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has opined that Virat Kohli could have taken some time and settled down in the middle against Rajasthan Royals instead of looking to score big from the first ball. Last night, in the IPL match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and RR, RCB suffered a 29-run defeat while chasing a 145-run target.
Kohli opened the innings for the Bangalore-based franchise and managed only nine runs. Fans who watched the first over bowled by Trent Boult felt that the luck was in Kohli’s favor in those deliveries. In the next over bowled by Prasidh Krishna, Kohli attempted a pull shot.
It looked like the ball hit him on his helmet, but replays suggested that the ball hit the toe end of his end. Virat walked back to the dressing room with another wry smile on his face. As per former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper should have looked to play a few deliveries, settle himself and then play shots like a pull shot.
Here’s what he was quoted as saying on Star Sports by Cric Today:
“Virat should have played for himself, and there is no harm in getting selfish to get back to form. Kohli knows he is out of form, and even a scratchy knock would have been good for him, but he decided to bat aggressively and paid the price with his wicket.”
Virat Kohli has scored 128 runs in 9 matches of IPL 2022
It has been a forgettable season for Virat Kohli and his fans so far. The right-handed batter is yet to score a fifty in the tournament. While he did get out unluckily multiple times, in recent matches, Kohli has struggled to middle the ball.
After two golden ducks in two matches, Kohli changed his batting position but failed to make an impact.
