Team India is gearing up for the Cricket World Cup 2023 at home. All the participating nations have almost reached India, with the warmup schedule to start on Friday. All ten teams will play two warmup matches ahead of the start of the tournament.
The World Cup 2023 will begin on October 5, when England and New Zealand face each other in Ahmedabad. A number of teams are looking good to make a mark in the coming event. However, India, which is hosting the entire tournament, is among the top contenders to win the World Cup.
And if it happens, India will break the decade-long ICC trophy drought. India won the last ICC title in 2013, when MS Dhoni won the Champions Trophy. But for the fans, the memory of the Indian team winning the 2011 World Cup at home will be fresh.
So can they repeat that glory again at home in front of the home fans? Well, only time will tell, but India is certainly among the favorites. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team, revealed MS Dhoni’s one line of advice that helped the team win the cup.
In a discussion on Cricbuzz, Sehwag recalls a moment when the Indian team fulfilled the expectations of billions in 2011. He said that during the team meeting, they decided that they wouldn’t listen to outside noise or read newspapers, which can add to the pressure, and it became a rule for every player, and everyone followed it.
He stated that whenever anyone talked to each other, they made sure that it was all about cricket. Coach Gary Kirsten and skipper MS Dhoni made sure that everyone was together and did team-building exercises. Sehwag added that the pressure was there, and whoever was meeting with them was saying to win the World Cup.
Sehwag said, “But MS Dhoni has this one line: ‘focus on the process’. Our process was good; that’s why we won. That was a big reason behind our World Cup win.” It will be worth watching to see if Rohit can do what Dhoni did in 2011.
