Team India will be desperate to end a decade-long trophy drought and win their third World Cup title. Rohit Sharma will look to replicate the success MS Dhoni had in 2011 at home. With not much time for the tournament to start, the predictions have started.

A number of former cricketers are sharing their thoughts on the top four teams and the team that can win the game. However, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team, has picked the Indian captain to score the most runs in the coming tournament.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was the leading scorer in the 2019 edition in England. He scored 648 runs in nine innings at an average of 81 and a strike rate of 98.33. Rohit also smashed five centuries and one half-century in the tournament. Though his current form is not as good as it used to be, he is a proven customer.

In an interaction with the ICC, Sehwag said that on Indian pitches, the openers will get more benefit. He also said that there are a few good openers in the tournament, but as an Indian, he picks Rohit Sharma.

Sehwag said, “If I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma because when the World Cup comes, his energy level and his performance go up. So I’m sure that, and this time he’s a captain also. So I’m sure that he will make a difference, and he will get a lot of runs.”

India will play against Australia in their first game of the World Cup. That match will take place on October 9 at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. India hasn’t won an ICC title since 2013, so they will look to do this at home.
