Former Punjab Kings batting coach Wasim Jaffer recently picked the three bowlers who can replace Deepak Chahar in the CSK playing XI for the initial matches of IPL 2022. Chahar, who was Chennai Super Kings’ most expensive signing at the IPL 2022 Auction, will reportedly be unavailable for the initial phase of IPL 2022 because of an injury.

It is a massive blow for the Chennai Super Kings team because Chahar is a bowling all-rounder who would have provided a lot of balance to the playing XI. Most importantly, he is a bowler who takes wickets in the powerplay overs. So, captain MS Dhoni will miss him in the powerplay phase.

Discussing about Deepak Chahar’s replacement in the playing XI for the initial matches, Wasim Jaffer said on ESPNCricinfo:

“We could see MS Dhoni giving confidence to the younger guys, the uncapped guys whether it’s Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh who bowls for Delhi in the powerplay [or] Mukesh Choudhary – he’s a left-armer who bowls at decent speeds.”

Jaffer concluded by saying that the wickets in Mumbai will assist the pacers a little bit, which was why he believed the uncapped players could receive a chance.

Along with Wasim Jaffer, Aakash Chopra also commented on the Deepak Chahar situation

Another former Indian opener Aakash Chopra was also present during the discussion. Chopra highlighted that there was no replacement for Chahar because if one existed, then the all-rounder would not have been sold for INR 14 crore.

According to Chopra, CSK will not for a replacement but change their strategy until Chahar recovers. He emphasized that taking wickets in the powerplay overs is important, but it was not the only way to win a match in the IPL. Chopra said that the Chennai Super Kings would now look for an alternate way to succeed in IPL matches.
