SunRisers Hyderabad’s uncapped fast bowler Umran Malik has shared his experience of working with the franchise’s fast-bowling coach Dale Steyn. Malik is one of the fastest bowlers in the world right now. He owns the record for the fastest ball bowled in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Umran Malik has always had his raw pace, but working with Dale Steyn, he has improved his accuracy. The uncapped fast bowler is one of the leading wicket-takers in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Last night, in the game between SunRisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, Umran bowled an expensive first over.
But he made a comeback in the next two overs and picked up three wickets. Umran opened his account with the wicket of Ishan Kishan. He bagged two wickets in his second over. Tilak Verma and Daniel Sams were his other two victims as he finished with figures of 3/23 in three overs.
In an interview after SunRisers Hyderabad’s win over Mumbai Indians, Umran Malik discussed the style of working with Dale Steyn and said:
“I am getting to learn a lot from Steyn and he is a cricketing legend. Even when we bowl for three hours in the nets, he is always there with us.”
Umran Malik also talked about picking up the chainsaw celebration from Dale Steyn
When Steyn was an active cricketer, he would celebrate wickets with his chainsaw celebration. Now Umran Malik is carrying forward the legacy. He has celebrated the same way after taking wickets. Here’s what Malik had to say about it:
“Dale Steyn is the umpire during net sessions and whenever I take a wicket, he does this kind of a celebration. I tried it one day, and since then it has become a habit.“
Umran Malik will be in action this Sunday, when the SunRisers Hyderabad take on the Punjab Kings in a do-or-die match in IPL 2022.
