Dunith Wellalage has grabbed the headlines by picking up three big wickets in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Sri Lanka. The Indian team is playing its second match in the space of two days, and it looks like the Indian players could not charge up their batteries to the fullest as the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli failed to score big.
Sharma got off to a good start and scored 53 runs off 48 deliveries, smacking seven fours and two sixes. The Hitman lost his stumps to Wellalage. Wellalage was born on January 9, 2003 in Colombo. He is 20 years and 246 days old. The left-arm spin bowler studied at the St. Joseph’s College in Colombo. He has played for the Jaffna Kings team in the Lanka Premier League.
Talking about his experience in international cricket, Wellalage played for Sri Lanka at the U-19 level. At the senior level, he has played only one Test match and 12 ODIs so far, where he has picked up total 13 wickets. He made his ODI debut against Australia at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium last year.
