South Africa Qualification Scenario was like this

Actually for South Africa to qualify for the semi-finals, they needed Australia to lose their match against West Indies and they needed to win against England, while the latter did happen, but the earlier result was not in their favour.

However, they could have still knocked out Australia. South Africa posted 189 runs on the board, thanks to a brilliant inning from Rassie Van Der Dussen, who scored 94 runs of 60 balls. But to knock out Australia, they needed to stop England before 131 runs, which they failed as England scored 179 runs. Thus, couldn’t overtake Australia in the net run rate.
