IPL 2021 was a dream season for Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler Harshal Patel. He ended the tournament as the leading wicket-taker and won the Most Valuable Player award also. Since the Bangalore-based franchise did not retain him for the 2022 IPL season, Patel is likely to emerge as one of the most expensive buys at the mega auction.

While 2021 was a fantastic year for Patel, there was one thing that he would like to forget about that, and it is the 37-run over that he bowled to Ravindra Jadeja during a league stage match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings. The CSK all-rounder showed no mercy to the RCB bowler and smacked his deliveries outside the park. It was the 20th over of the innings, where Harshal ended up conceding a record-equaling 37 runs.

It became the joint-most expensive over in the Indian Premier League history. Back in IPL 2011, Kochi Tuskers Kerala fast bowler Prashanth Parmeswaran also conceded 37 runs to Chris Gayle in a match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In a recent interview with CricTracker, Harshal Patel opened up on the 37-run over that he bowled in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.

I had a very bad day as I couldn’t execute a single yorker: Harshal Patel on the day when Ravindra Jadeja destroyed him

When asked about the one bad day in the office he had during the 2021 IPL season, Harshal Patel replied:

“The one thing you learn in professional sport after 11 years is that you can’t take anything too seriously. As if you start taking these things too seriously, it will be very difficult to sustain. I didn’t execute what I wanted to and the batter had a fantastic day. I had a very bad day as I couldn’t execute a single yorker.”

Patel concluded by saying that he had also taken three wickets in that match and he didn’t suddenly become a bad bowler after that disastrous over.
