Delhi Capitals have played 12 matches in IPL 2023, recording four wins and eight defeats. Last night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Capitals became the first team to be eliminated from the race to the playoffs this season. While some fans felt that Rishabh Pant’s absence hurt the team a lot, a few other factors also played a role in DC’s exit.

On paper, Delhi Capitals had a strong lineup. Teams having similar level of strengths have utilized their resources well and emerged as top performers in the season so far. However, IPL 2023 has been one of the worst seasons for the Delhi team.

They have been eliminated from the race to the playoffs because of the performance of some players whom the team management found capable of handling some important responsibilities. The likes of Rilee Rossouw, Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Sarfaraz Khan, Chetan Sakariya, Priyam Garg, Abhishek Porel and Mustafizur Rahman have let the team down with their performances.

Chennai Super Kings have performed brilliantly this season, and perhaps, a couple of benched players from their squad could have helped DC perform well in IPL 2023. Here’s a list of the two names.

    1. Ben Stokes could have been the captain of Delhi Capitals

Having Ben Stokes, Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly in the same team could have been a nightmare for all opponents. David Warner’s captaincy has not been the best this year as there have been too many changes. Also, the strategies could have been better. Someone like Ben Stokes, who is warming the benches at CSK, could have been very useful for DC.

    2. Subhranshu Senapati

CSK have preferred veteran player Ambati Rayudu over youngster Subhranshu Senapati in IPL 2023. Senapati has been doing a great job in domestic cricket. He deserves an opportunity to prove himself, and the Capitals could have given him that chance.
