T20 World Cup 2022 is happening right now in Australia, and it is the second mega event organized by the International Cricket Council in the year 2022. The first one was the ICC U-19 World Cup tournament which happened in the West Indies earlier this year.
In that competition also, teams from across the world sent their youth squads to compete for the trophy. India U-19s won the championship playing under the captaincy of Yash Dhull. It will be interesting to see if the Indian senior men’s team can replicate what the U-19 team did and win a World Cup in the year 2022.
There is a limit in the U-19 World Cup, where cricketers aged more than 19 cannot play, while there is no such cap in T20 World Cup 2022. Interestingly though, there are two such players who participated in the U-19 World Cup and T20 World Cup in the year 2022. Here is a list of those two names:
1. Aayan Afzal Khan – Youngest player of T20 World Cup 2022
UAE’s spin-bowling all-rounder Aayan Afzal Khan made history in the T20 World Cup 2022 as he became the youngest player to receive a spot in the playing XI of any nation at the mega event. Aged 16, Khan got an opportunity to play for the UAE in their Round 1 match against the Netherlands at the Simmonds Stadium.
Khan played for UAE U-19s in the U-19 World Cup 2022. He got to play six matches for the UAE U-19 team, where he scored 146 runs in five innings. He also took five wickets for the team.
2. Alishan Sharafu
Aayan’s teammate Alishan Sharafu also played in both U-19 World Cup and T20 World Cup this year. He is 19 years and 283 days old as of today. The Kerala-born player scored 95 runs in U-19 World Cup.
