Gujarat Titans have been knocked out of IPL 2024. The IPL 2022 champions were scheduled to play their last two matches this week against Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, rain followed the Titans wherever they went, and both the games got abandoned without a single ball being bowled in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, respectively.
The Titans will have to go back to the drawing room now. The best thing for the Gujarat-based franchise is that the next season will begin with a mega auction. Thus, they will have to release a majority of the players and form a fresh squad. In this listicle now, we will look at the two expensive players whom the Titans should release.
1. Gujarat Titans will likely release Spencer Johnson before IPL 2025 Auction
Australian left-arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson grabbed the headlines with his magnificent performances in the Big Bash League. He also made his debut for the Australian team in ODIs and T20Is. Although his international performances were not that good, Johnson bagged an expensive contract.
Gujarat went all out at the auction for him. Eventually, GT spent 10 crore to sign him. He played only five matches this season and scalped four wickets. GT will likely release him soon.
2. Shahrukh Khan
Uncapped Indian all-rounder Shahrukh Khan continued to earn big contracts at the auction. This time, the Titans went all out for him and snapped him up for a price of INR 7.4 crore. Khan did not get chances to show his talent initially.
By the time the season ended, Khan played seven matches for the Titans, scoring 127 runs at an average of less than 20. Since it is a mega auction next year, GT can easily sign him for a lower amount if they want to.
