In a surprising turn of events during the Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars match in the Big Bash League 2023-24, the third umpire erroneously declared a batter out after pressing the wrong button.
James Vince hit the ball straight to bowler Imad Wasim, resulting in a run-out referral for Josh Philippe. Although replays clearly showed Philippe was safely inside his crease, the giant screen displayed an incorrect out decision, causing confusion.
Fortunately, the on-field umpire rectified the mistake swiftly, informing the players of the error, leaving both Philippe and Stars’ Glenn Maxwell amused.
Despite this incident, the Melbourne Stars emerged victorious, defeating the Sydney Sixers by six wickets. James Vince contributed significantly with a score of 79 off 57 balls, and Daniel Hughes added a brilliant 32-ball-41.
Earlier in the match, impressive performances by Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Hilton Cartwright helped the Melbourne Stars reach a total of 156 in 20 overs.
