Rajasthan Royals missed out on a place in the IPL 2024 Final, and now their eyes will be on the IPL 2025 Auction. Jos Buttler’s absence hurt the Royals big time as the inexperienced Tom Kohler-Cadmore could not fill in his shoes. The Royals lost the Qualifier 2 match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, which resulted in their early elimination from the tournament.

RR will now have to think hard about the players they wish to retain before the mega auction. It is obvious that players like Sanju Samson, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal and Riyan Parag will be retained, but there is a question mark over the other names. Here’s a list of two expensive players whom RR might release.

    1. Rajasthan Royals might release Rovman Powell

RR failed to sign a single quality all-rounder in the entire auction cycle from 2022 to 2024. They tried out players like Donovan Ferreira, Jimmy Neesham, Shubham Dubey, Jason Holder and Rovman Powell, but none of the players could play the role that the Royals wanted them to do so.

Powell was not used much with the ball. He could not perform well with the bat as well. Hence, he failed to justify his INR 7.4 crore, and it is highly unlikely that the West Indies all-rounder will be retained before the mega auction.

    2. Shubham Dubey

Another all-rounder to feature on the list is Shubham Dubey. The uncapped player could not perform well this season. Also, he could not justify his big price tag of INR 5.8 crore.

If the Royals are interested in his services, they might release him and try to buy him at a lower price at the mega auction. The Rajasthan-based franchise may not invest INR 5.8 crore to retain him.
