Sunrisers Hyderabad finished runners-up in IPL 2024. They suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. SRH will now look forward to the IPL 2025 season, and to ensure that they make the best possible retentions, they might have to let go of some expensive players.
Overall, IPL 2024 was a pretty successful season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Over the last three seasons, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. However, this year, they not only finished in the Top 2 but also played attacking cricket, which made millions of fans tune in live to watch the Orange Army play.
Owner Kaviya Maran and coach Daniel Vettori will likely retain the star quartet of Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, who played a major role in SRH’s success. Meanwhile, here’s a list of two expensive players whom Hyderabad may release.
1. SRH might not retain Abdul Samad for IPL 2025
Abdul Samad received a lot of backing from the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The all-rounder is known for his big hits, but he could not deliver the goods when his team needed him the most in IPL 2024. In particular, Samad failed to light up the IPL 2024 playoffs with his explosive batting.
Considering that the Hyderabad-based franchise did not use him much in the bowling department as well, they might consider freeing up 4 crore in their auction purse by letting him go.
2. Mayank Agarwal
In 2020, Mayank Agarwal had the breakthrough IPL season of his career. He played some entertaining knocks when he was with Kings XI Punjab. However, since then, his performances have not been the same, especially since 2023, when he moved to SRH. He has struggled to score runs, and it will be great for SRH if they have an extra 8.25 crore in the purse by releasing Mayank.
