Gujarat Titans made history by becoming the first team to win the 10-team IPL season in their debut tournament itself. The Ahmedabad-based franchise joined the Indian Premier League in the 2022 season. Playing under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the Titans topped the points table and qualified for the playoffs.

They defeated the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1 and then in the final to capture their first-ever championship. Some of the biggest names of world cricket like Hardik Pandya, David Miller, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson played for the Titans in their debut season.

While the Gujarat Titans achieved enormous success in their first IPL season itself, their team owners decided against extending their business to other T20 leagues. The GT owners do not have any interest in buying a team in other leagues, but their players are participating in other leagues, including SA20.

Two of the players who won the IPL 2022 tournament with the Gujarat Titans are currently playing for Chennai Super Kings’ sister franchise Joburg Super Kings in SA20 2023. Here’s a list of the two players:

    1. Gujarat Titans wicket-keeper Matthew Wade

Gujarat signed experienced wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade in their debut season. Wade returned to the IPL after a decade, but he could not set the tournament on fire. He struggled for consistency and ended up failing more times than succeeding for the new franchise.

Wade is still a big name in T20 cricket. The left-handed batter from Australia has joined the Joburg Super Kings as a replacement signing for the rest of the season.

    2. Alzarri Joseph

West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph played a big role in GT’s championship win. He was one of their top two overseas speedsters along with Lockie Ferguson. Joseph played for JSK in the first phase of SA20 but has left the team now.
