After a dominating 3-0 series win in the One Day International (ODI) format, Team India suffered defeat in the opening match of the 3 match T20 International (T20I) series against the New Zealand cricket team in Ranchi.
Both the teams fielding a somewhat rotated squad in this series as the main players are busy preparing both the upcoming fixtures in the longer formats of the game.
It was India captain Hardik Pandya who won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, a brilliant display from Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell ensured New Zealand post 176 runs on the board as both the batters scored a half-century.
Meanwhile chasing the target, India lost 3 wickets inside the powerplay and then Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya tried to get back into the game. But once the former was dismissed, India lost momentum once again.
Despite all that, it was Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar who had an all-round better game than any other players. Sundar took 2 wickets with ball, took some stunning catches and then scored a fifty with the bat.
After his performance, the Indian captain Hardik Pandya said that it was mostly a Washington Sundar vs New Zealand match rather than India vs New Zealand. The fans got angry on this statement from the Indian captain and let out their anger.
