Rohit Sharma played his first match under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 earlier tonight. It was a match against Hardik’s former franchise, Gujarat Titans. In the past, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans squared off twice in Ahmedabad, with GT emerging victorious on both occasions.

Hardik Pandya tried his best to help Mumbai Indians win the match, but his questionable captaincy decision as well as inability to clear the boundary off Umesh Yadav’s bowling ensured that the Gujarat Titans completed a hat-trick of wins over the Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
It was an action-packed evening in Ahmedabad, where the dynamic of Hardik and Rohit entertained the fans a lot. There was a rare moment, where captain Hardik was setting the field and he asked Sharma to go back and field in the deep. Sharma was surprised for a moment and then agreed to his new captain’s order.
Speaking with the host broadcasters after his team’s loss, Hardik said:
“We backed ourselves to chase those 42 but it’s one of the days where if we saw the score is less in the last five overs and we lost a little bit of momentum at the back end.”
