Fake fielding is one of the modern laws of cricket, wherein a team receives a penalty of five runs if one of their fielders attempts to throw the ball towards the pitch even if it is not in his hands. Such an attempt is made only to distract the batter while he is running between the wickets.
A video of the incident will make the law clearer for the fans. Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne became the first player to be penalized under this law during a domestic cricket match back in 2017. So far, two Indian cricketers have also been alleged of not following the law. Here’s a list of those two names:
1. Bangladesh accused Virat Kohli of fake fielding in T20 World Cup 2022
Team India played their fourth match of T20 World Cup 2022’s Super 12 stage against Bangladesh yesterday at the Adelaide Oval. Virat Kohli shone for the Men in Blue with a spectacular half-century. However, in the second innings of the match, Bangladesh cricketers and fans felt that Kohli might have done a fake fielding attempt, which is why the players asked for five runs penalty.
“You saw that we had to play in a wet outfield, but there was also a case of fake fielding which also didn’t go our way,” Hasan said during the post-match press conference.
This statement has sparked a huge debate on social media, but fans should note that Kohli’s action did not distract the batters.
Kohli was spotted distracting Shanto by "fake fielding." As per the law, India was supposed to be given 5 runs penalty for such a shameful. But guess what? The on-field umpires didn't even care to recheck and instantly denied taking any action. #cheating #T20WorldCup #INDvBAN pic.twitter.com/A5MPAIilE8

2. Rohit Sharma
Australia toured India for a three-match ODI series in the year 2020. During one of the matches of that series, the current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was spotted making an attempt of not following the laws. However, Sharma was not penalized. The Australian fans on social media complained about it at that time.
