Virat Kohli had a great captaincy tenure at the Indian cricket team. His leadership brought about a revolution in the Indian team, especially in fast bowling and the mindset of the team when traveling overseas. Many current Indian players started their careers under Kohli’s captaincy.
Kohli played his last match as captain in January 2022, which was against South Africa in an away Test match. Two years have passed since Kohli captained India, but fans will always remember his era as the leader of the team.
As mentioned above, many players debuted under Kohli’s leadership. In fact, the following two of them have even retied and playing in World Championship of Legends tournament now.
1. Ambati Rayudu made his debut under Virat Kohli’s captaincy
It might surprise a few fans but Ambati Rayudu, who is working as a commentator in Star Sports now, started his international career for India under Kohli’s captaincy. It was in an ODI against Zimbabwe back in the year 2013. Kohli scored a hundred in that game and helped India win.
Rayudu remained a part of the Indian squad till 2019. He was not selected for the World Cup in 2019 and then he announced retirement. Although he took a U-turn, he was never recalled to the team. Now, he is playing for India Champions in WCL 2024.
2. Naman Ojha
Wicketkeeper Naman Ojha played his debut Test match against Sri Lanka under Virat’s captaincy in the year 2015. It seemed like Ojha would succeed MS Dhoni as the glovesman, but the team management preferred Wriddhiman Saha over him soon.
Ojha retired a few years ago. He has been playing in leagues of retired cricketers, and at the moment, he is a part of the India Champions squad in the World Championship of Legends tournament in the UK.
