IPL 2024 was the best season for the KKR team and fans. Kolkata Knight Riders finished number one in the points table and then defeated the number two-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the playoffs twice to become the champions of the tournament. Mentor Gautam Gambhir played a major role in KKR’s triumph this season.
As per reports, Gambhir is now all set to be promoted to the Indian head coach’s role. After Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends later this year, Gambhir will likely remain head coach till the 2027 World Cup. It is natural that some talented yet underrated players who Gambhir has observed closely may receive more chances to play for India if he becomes the head coach. Here’s a list of two such players.
1. Harshit Rana had a memorable IPL 2024 season
Harshit Rana was one of the top wicket-takers of the season. The right-arm pacer impressed everyone with his wicket-taking abilities, and he has also mentioned that he can contribute with the bat for the team if needed. India needs quality pace-bowling all-rounders, and Rana could be that player. He is hungry to play for India as well.
“(I want to get that Indian jersey). It doesn’t matter if I get it in the T20Is, the ODIs or in the whites,” Harshit Rana said in an interview Indian Express.
2. Venkatesh Iyer
Another pace-bowling all-rounder to feature on the list is Venkatesh Iyer. The left-handed batter has proven himself as a clutch player in IPL playoffs. He became the first cricketer in IPL history to register four consecutive scores of 50 or more while playing in a playoff game.
Iyer can bowl right-arm medium pace as well. Gautam Gambhir loves such clutch players, and there is no reason why he won’t back Iyer if he becomes the head coach.
