IPL 2024 is still more than one month away, but the list of players being ruled out of the tournament already has two names on it. Generally, the BCCI announces the IPL schedule at the start of February, but this time, the announcement has been delayed owing to the General Elections in India.
As per reports, BCCI wants to conduct the entire IPL 2024 tournament in India only. Hence, they will work with the government officials and try to organize the matches in such a way that the cities where the voting takes place do not coincide with the match dates in that particular area.
IPL 2024 will be the last major tournament for players to prepare for T20 World Cup. Thus, quite a few players have made themselves available. At the same time, the following two players have already been ruled out of IPL 2024.
1. Mark Wood has been ruled out of IPL 2024
Mark Wood was a part of the Lucknow Super Giants squad. He has been with LSG for three years but played very few matches due to injuries and personal reasons. LSG retained the express England pacer for the 2024 season, but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have pulled him out of the tournament to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.
LSG had no other option but to go for a replacement. They roped in West Indies’ fast bowler Shamar Joseph for INR 3 crore.
2. Gus Atkinson
Earlier today, Kolkata Knight Riders confirmed that their new signing Gus Atkinson will not feature in their squad for the IPL 2024 squad. As a replacement, the two-time IPL champions have signed Dushmantha Chameera, who has played for Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past.
