Scoring even one century in T20 cricket is a big thing because the cricketers get only 120 balls in an entire innings. When the T20 format was launched, not many fans believed that any batter would score a hundred in his format. However, as the times have passed, the batters have not just crossed the 100-run mark once but recorded 150s as well in this format.
Quite a few batters have consistently achieved the feat of scoring a century in the T20 format of the sport. Batters like Virat Kohli, Michael Klinger, David Warner and Aaron Finch have registered eight centuries in this format. Meanwhile, the following two batters have managed to notch up more than 10 centuries in the shortest format of the game so far in their careers.
2. Babar Azam scored his 11th T20 hundred earlier tonight
Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam became the latest member of this elite club during the Pakistan Super League match between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United. Playing as the captain of Peshawar, Babar scored his 11th century in the shortest format of the game.
Azam came out to open the innings with Saim Ayub. He remained unbeaten throughout the innings and scored 111 runs off 63 balls. The right-handed batter hit 14 fours and two sixes to celebrate a century for the 11th time in his T20 career.
1. Most centuries in T20 cricket – Chris Gayle
Former West Indies all-rounder Chris Gayle earned the nickname of the Universe Boss for his fantastic performances in the shortest format of the game. Gayle smashed 22 centuries while playing in T20Is for West Indies and various T20 leagues across the world.
Gayle has retired now, and although the number of T20 matches happening across the world has increased significantly, it seems unlikely that any cricketer will be able to break the world record of Gayle in the near future.
