Rising Pune Supergiant were a part of the Indian Premier League from 2016 to 2017. The current owners of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise, RPSG group, bought the franchise in 2016. They were a short-term replacement for the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals, who were suspended from the league for two years.
The Pune-based franchise performed well in the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League. They made it to the final, where they lost to the Mumbai Indians by just one run. Some big names like MS Dhoni, Faf du Plessis, Kevin Pietersen, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin and Imran Tahir were a part of the Pune-based franchise.
There were also a couple of players who played just one season for the Rising Pune Supergiant team in their IPL careers and then disappeared from the competition. Here’s a list of those two players.
1. Scott Boland played for the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016
Australian right-arm fast-medium bowler Scott Boland played for RPS in 2016. Boland made a name for himself with his recent performances for the Australian cricket team against the England cricket team in the Ashes. He has not played in the IPL since the 2016 season.
Boland played two matches for the Pune-based team in the IPL. He took two wickets. His best bowling figures were 2/31 against the Delhi Capitals, where he dismissed Sanju Samson and Carlos Brathwaite.
2. Peter Handscomb
Another Australian player to feature on the list is Peter Handscomb. The right-handed batter played just one innings for Pune, where he scored six runs against the Mumbai Indians. He lost his wicket to Harbhajan Singh, and after that he never batted in the Premier League.
Handscomb has done well in T20 cricket. However, he has never got another opportunity to play in the IPL.
