Shubman Gill was a part of the India U-19s squad that won the 2018 U-19 World Cup. Prithvi Shaw was the skipper of that squad, while Gill was his deputy. Gill played a huge role in India’s success as he was the top run-getter for the India U-19 team.
Five years later, Gill is the opener of the Indian ODI team now. He has played some great knocks for the nation in his short career. The Gujarat Titans star holds the record for being the youngest cricketer to score a double century in men’s ODI matches, having recently scored a double ton against the New Zealand cricket team.
It is likely that Shubman Gill will play in the upcoming 2023 World Cup for the Indian cricket team, but two of his teammates from the 2018 U-19 batch have disappeared now. These players have not received a place in the domestic teams of their respective regions in the last two years as well. Here’s a list of the two names:
1. Manjot Kalra was teammate of Shubman Gill
Manjot Kalra came into the limelight when he played a match-winning knock of 101 runs against Australia U-19s in the final of the U-19 World Cup 2018. Kalra was soon picked by the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League.
The future seemed bright for the left-handed batter when he unfortunately was involved in age fraud. DDCA suspended him from Ranji Trophy. In his domestic career so far, Kalra has managed to play only three matches, with his last appearance coming in 2021.
2. Pankaj Yadav
15-year-old Pankaj Yadav was also a part of the India U-19 squad that won the 2018 U-19 World Cup. He did not play any matches during the mega event. Yadav played for India U-19s in the 2019 U-19 Asia Cup, but the leg-spinner is yet to play another match after that.
