Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2024 campaign has ended. Much to the disappointment of every cricket fan, the contest between Sunrisers Hyderabad and GT got washed out due to rain at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. The Titans had an outside chance of qualifying on Sunday, but their matches against Kolkata Knight Riders and SRH got abandoned due to rain.
As a result, the Titans will have to watch the rest of the season from home now. Also, with a mega auction set to happen next year, the Titans will quickly start thinking about the players who they should retain. The first three names whom the Titans retain will likely be captain Shubman Gill, all-rounder Rashid Khan and fast bowler Mohammed Shami.
There have been reports claiming that the IPL teams will have permission to retain as many as eight players as well. In this listicle now, we will look at the two players who could be surprising retentions before the mega auction for GT.
1. Gujarat Titans may retain Rahul Tewatia
Uncapped Indian all-rounder Rahul Tewatia surprisingly received a 9 crore deal from the Gujarat-based franchise in IPL 2022. Tewatia justified his value by helping the team win close matches on many occasions. He even stood up as the vice-captain when Shubman Gill got injured in GT’s last completed match against the Chennai Super Kings.
Tewatia has received a lot of support from the Titans. Hence, he may agree to continue with the franchise if the support staff offers him another contract.
2. Noor Ahmad
Afghanistan’s left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad played a major role in Gujarat’s success over the last two years. If Rashid Khan gets retained by the Gujarat-based franchise, he will likely recommend Noor’s name as well.
Ahmad has become an international player as well and done well for his nation. Thus, the left-arm spinner could prove to be a long-term asset for the Titans if they retain him for the next cycle.
