    T20 World Cup

For the second time in T20 World Cup history, two editions of the mega event will happen in the space of two years. In 2009 and 2010, England and West Indies hosted the T20 World Cup in back-to-back years. Now, in 2021 and 2021, the T20 WC is happening in consecutive years, with UAE & Oman and Australia being the hosts.

16 teams participated in the 2021 edition of the mega event which happened in UAE and Oman last year. Interestingly, only 14 of them have made it to the 2022 edition of the mega event. Not much changes in the gap of one year, but the following two teams have lost their spots in this year’s World Cup and replaced by two other teams.

    1. Papua New Guinea will not play in T20 World Cup 2022

Papua New Guinea made their debut in the mega event last year. They were one of the eight teams present in the qualifying round of the competition. Before the start of the tournament, the PNG team earned everyone’s attention thanks to their unique kit and colors.

They were a part of the Group B in the qualifying round of the tournament alongside Bangladesh, Oman and Scotland. PNG lost their first match against Oman by 10 wickets. They suffered big defeats against Scotland and Bangladesh as well, finishing last in the standings.

    2. Oman

Oman were one of the eight teams in the qualifying round as well. Even they were a part of the Group B. Despite winning their first match of the tournament by 10 wickets, Oman could not continue their winning momentum and crashed out of the competition.

This year, instead of Oman and Papua New Guinea, UAE and Zimbabwe have qualified for the mega event. It will be interesting to see if they can perform between the previous two teams.
