Rahul Tewatia surprisingly stood up as the captain for the Gujarat Titans last night in their IPL 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings. The defending champions could only score 196 runs in 20 overs while chasing a 232-run target against the Gujarat Titans.
In the first innings, GT openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan smacked a century each to guide their team to 231/3 in 20 overs. Chasing 232 for a win, the Chennai Super Kings lost three early wickets, but half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali brought them back into the contest.
Eventually, MS Dhoni tried his best, but the other finishers could not support him well as the Chennai Super Kings ended up losing by 35 runs. One interesting thing which fans noticed was that Shubman Gill did not come to captain the Gujarat side because he was dealing with a hamstring issue after his century.

Shashank Singh has shown a lot of promise for the Punjab Kings. He has done a great job as a finisher, and perhaps, a new role could be getting ready for him as well. That is captaining the team in case regular captain Shikhar Dhawan and vice-captain Sam Curran aren’t available.
2. Ayush Badoni
Lucknow Super Giants have shown a lot of faith in Ayush Badoni since they joined the IPL. The batter has done a phenomenal job for the side as well. If needed, Badoni can step up as a leader for the team as a backup option whenever needed.
