Cricket has entertained millions of fans across the world with some thrilling matches happening around the globe every now and then. There are three main formats of cricket – Test, ODI and T20I. There is no limit on the maximum overs a team can play in Tests, whereas in ODIs and T20Is, the teams get to bat for 50 and 20 overs, respectively.
Apart from the aforementioned three formats, some modern era administrators have also built the T10 format, with T10 Leagues happening in Abu Dhabi, Europe, Zimbabwe and USA. These four formats are extremely popular, but here’s a list of three such formats of cricket which proved to be a major flop.
1. The Hundred cricket tournament
With the aim of bringing about a revolution in the sport, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched The Hundred for men and women. Eight teams participated in both tournaments, and the matches featured 100 balls each.

There was no concept of over as bowlers could bowl five or 10 consecutive balls based on the captain’s wish. Even the die-hard fans struggled to understand this format, and it will be scrapped soon.
2. SuperMax Cricket
After playing 300 ODIs, Tendulkar was involved in the experimental cricket. The Super Max Cricket.

Hitting straight would fetch you 8 & 12 instead of 4 & 6.@sachin_rt smashed 72 off 27, also took 3 wickets (Man of the Match).
New Zealand 123/5 & 118/7
India 133/5 & 87/6 pic.twitter.com/h6PqxYv652
Super Max Cricket was a T20 played in two innings of 10 overs each. Each team batted twice. There was a Max zone in front of the stumps. If the ball crossed the boundary in the Max Zone, a batter would get 8 or 12 runs instead of 4 or 6. India and New Zealand played a SuperMax match in 2002, where the Blackcaps won.

It's hit like a rocket but that's a lovely take by Kevin Pietersen 👏

Ultimate Kricket Challenge was a one-on-one cricket tournament instead of a 11 vs 11. Rashid Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Kevin Pietersen, Andre Russell, Chris Gayle and Eoin Morgan participated in the inaugural season in Dubai. The arena was too small, and fans could not understand rules properly as well. Rashid Khan won the title by defeating Russell in the final.
