Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most decorated franchises in the Indian Premier League history. They made it to the final of the inaugural edition of the IPL and then won the championships in seasons three and four. CSK have also finished as champions in IPL 2018 and 2021.
One of the major reasons behind Chennai’s success has been the core group of players. Players like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo have been associated with the franchise for a long time. Some of the legends of the game have played for the Chennai-based franchise.
Quite a few former Chennai players have now retired and even become coaches or commentators. We already saw a list of four former Chennai Super Kings players who are doing commentary in T20 World Cup 2022, and here’s a list of three such players who are now coaches.
1. Matthew Hayden – Pakistan
Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden played a pivotal role in Chennai’s success during the initial IPL seasons. He won the Orange Cap award in the 2009 edition of the league. Hayden is a mentor for the Pakistan cricket team at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
2. Michael Hussey – England
Another former Australian batter and IPL Orange Cap winner to appear on this list is Michael Hussey. The left-handed batter has now retired and is a part of Chennai’s coaching staff. He is also a consultant for England in T20 World Cup 2022.
3. Albie Morkel – Namibia
Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel has a special place in the hearts of Chennai Super Kings fans. He also has a special place in the hearts of Namibian fans now because he has taken the team to the next level as an assistant coach of the team.
