Winning the IPL trophy has been the aim of RCB for many years. Ever since the Indian Premier League started in 2008, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have been a part of all the seasons. However, they are yet to put their hands on the title.
Despite signing some of the best talents in the world and hiring some well-known retired players as coaches, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have failed to win the championship. Perhaps, RCB team owners can now think of hiring a coach who has already won IPL trophy to change the team’s fortunes.
After Sanjay Bangar and Mike Hesson’s reported exit from the Royal Challengers Bangalore, here’s a list of three names whom Bangalore could hire as their next head coach to win the IPL.
1. Darren Lehmann can help RCB win IPL trophy
Former Australian player Darren Lehmann is one of the few names in IPL history who has won the trophy as a player and a coach. In 2008, Lehmann was a member of the Rajasthan Royals team that won the IPL championship.
Next, in 2009, Lehmann became the head coach of the Deccan Chargers and reversed the team’s fortunes by taking them from bottom of the table to the championship in South Africa. An experienced name like Lehmann can help RCB succeed.
2. Will Trevor Bayliss leave Punjab Kings to join RCB and win an IPL trophy?
Andy Flower recently left Lucknow Super Giants. As per Cricbuzz, he is in talks with a North Indian franchise. There is a possibility that Flower could replace Trevor Bayliss as PBKS head coach. In that case, RCB should think of hiring Bayliss because he won the trophy with KKR in 2012 and 2014.
3. Tom Moody
Brian Lara replaced Tom Moody as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in late 2022. Moody was the head coach of SRH in IPL 2016. It will be interesting to see if the Bangalore-based franchise consider hiring him as their next coach.
