Test cricket is rated as the toughest format in the world. India have emerged as one of the best performing teams in the longest format of the game. The Indian team won five consecutive ICC Test mace trophies for finishing at the top of the ICC Rankings for teams. India also qualified for the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship Final in 2019-21 and are in the second position in the standings at the moment.
One of the reasons behind India’s success has been the great captaincy skills of the leader. India has been playing Test cricket for a long time, but in the last two decades only, three captains have emerged who won the first three matches as the skipper in the longest format of the game.
1. Rohit Sharma has won 3 Test matches as captain
New captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma has played three Tests and won all of them. He was elected the skipper for the series against Sri Lanka at home last year and he won that series by 2-0. Sharma recently won his third match in Nagpur against Australia.
2. Ajinkya Rahane won first 3 Test matches as captain
Ajinkya Rahane never became the full-time captain of India, but he led the team to some memorable wins. His first three wins as captain came against Australia (2017), Afghanistan (2018) and Australia (2020).
