In case you did not know, there is a rule in cricket which states that if the captain of one team wants, he can ask the umpires to withdraw his appeal for a dismissal of a batter from the other team. The umpires can then have a discussion and call the dismissed batter back to resume his innings.
Such things are rare in cricket because every team comes to win and almost every team does anything possible to win the matches. However, there have been three such rare incidents in cricket history when the captain of one team asked the batter of opponent to come back and resume his innings after being dismissed.
1. Virender Sehwag, 2012
In the 2012 Commonwealth Bank Series, R Ashwin dismissed Lahiru Thirimanne on the non-striker’s end with a run out before bowling the delivery. Virender Sehwag, who was the Indian captain, decided to withdraw the appeal as Thirimanne was ruled not out.
2. MS Dhoni, 2011
Ian Bell was run out in a bizarre fashion during India’s England tour in 2011. He hit the ball towards the backward point region, and fielder Praveen Kumar did not know that the ball had not touched the boundary rope. He threw the ball towards the fielder, who decided to take the bails off. The ball had not touched the boundary as Bell was run out.
The England batter was furious after the dismissal. Indian captain MS Dhoni decided to call him back by withdrawing the appeal.
3. Rohit Sharma, 2021
Three cheers to Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya for showing Sportsmanship towards KL Rahul 😇🙌🏻👏🏻

While the aforementioned incidents happened in international cricket, Rohit Sharma withdrew an appeal from Mumbai Indians in 2021 against Punjab Kings. KL Rahul got hurt and was run out, but Krunal Pandya and Rohit asked the umpire not to give him out.
