Lucknow Super Giants were one of the two new franchises that made their debut in IPL 2022. The Lucknow-based franchise became the first one to represent Uttar Pradesh in the Indian Premier League. KL Rahul was named the captain of the team. The team management formed a stellar squad at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

As expected, LSG made it to the playoffs in their debut season, but they could not win the title. Lucknow finished third on the points table, meaning they had to play in the Eliminator match. Royal Challengers Bangalore knocked them out of the competition by defeating them in the Eliminator match.

LSG fans would be disappointed with the way their team’s season ended, but they would be satisfied with a Top 4 finish. Most of the Lucknow Super Giants players performed well in IPL 2022, but the team management may think twice before retaining the following three players ahead of IPL 2023 Mini Auction.

    1. Lucknow Super Giants may release Manish Pandey

Experienced Indian batter Manish Pandey failed to meet the expectations in IPL 2022. He was a member of the LSG playing XI in their first match. The team management kept him in the playing XI for six matches, where he scored 88 runs at an average of less than 15. His strike rate was 110 in those six innings.

    2. Lucknow Super Giants may release Andrew Tye

Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye joined LSG as a last-minute replacement for Mark Wood. Tye played three matches for Lucknow, scalping two wickets at an economy rate of 9.72. If Wood is available for the next season, Tye may not be retained.

    3. Marcus Stoinis

The only reason why Marcus Stoinis finds himself on this list is because of his price tag. LSG paid 9.2 crore to sign him before the auction but could not give him a clear role. He batted in the lower order and bowled very few overs. It will be interesting to see if LSG retain him for the same amount.
