MS Dhoni is one of the most successful skippers in cricket history. He made his debut as Indian captain in ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and won the trophy. Later, he became the Test and ODI captain as well. He led India to the number one position on the ICC Test Rankings. Under his captaincy, India won the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Many players realized their full potential while playing under the captaincy of Dhoni. Interestingly, some of them went on to become the captains of IPL teams. They even led their teams to the trophies. Here’s a list of three such players:
1. Hardik Pandya made his international debut under MS Dhoni
Dhoni was the captain of the Indian cricket team when Baroda’s Hardik Pandya made his debut. He earned a place for the T20I series against the Australian cricket team. While he did not have the best debut, Pandya became one of the best all-rounders to have played white-ball cricket. Earlier this year, Pandya made his captaincy debut in IPL and led the Gujarat Titans to the IPL trophy.
2. Gautam Gambhir won two World Cups under MS Dhoni
Gautam Gambhir is one of the best Indian batters of all time. He played a match-winning role for the country in the 2007 T20 World Cup Final and 2011 World Cup Final. Gambhir won two IPL trophies as captain while leading the Kolkata Knight Riders.
3. Rohit Sharma
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma also made his debut under Dhoni in the 2007 T20 World Cup. He played in the middle-order initially before transitioning into an opener’s role. Sharma became the skipper of the Mumbai Indians team in 2013 and led the team to the championship. He has won five IPL trophies so far in his captaincy career.
