IPL 2023 will get underway later this year. The mini auction for the event happened recently, where more than 80 players earned contracts from the 10 franchises. Close to one thousand cricketers had registered themselves for the auction, but less than 500 of them made it to the final list. Out of those shortlisted players, around 80 earned contracts from the franchises.
The Indian Premier League began in the year 2008, with eight city-based franchises taking on each other to win the championship. Two new teams joined the league in 2022. There are 10 teams now. 15 years have passed since the start of the IPL, and only three players who played in the inaugural IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play in the upcoming season.
1. Wriddhiman Saha will play in IPL 2023
Wriddhiman Saha was the wicket-keeper of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in that match. Saha did not get a chance to bat in the match, but he took one catch and executed one run-out as well. Saha played a few more matches for the Kolkata-based franchise.
The veteran Indian cricketer represented multiple franchises after his exit from KKR. Right now, he plays for the Gujarat Titans team.
2. Ishant Sharma will play in IPL 2023
Ishant Sharma will make his return to the Indian Premier League this year. The veteran Indian pacer was a new face in the cricket world when Kolkata Knight Riders selected him in the 2008 season. Sharma featured in the playing XI and bowled a dream spell of 1/7 in three overs. Delhi Capitals signed him for the 2023 season.
3. Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore star Virat Kohli will play in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. Kohli is the only player from the Royal Challengers Bangalore playing XI of Match 1, who will participate in IPL 2023.
