SA20 2024 will start tomorrow with a match between the Joburg Super Kings and defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Four other franchises, namely Pretoria Capitals, MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants and Paarl Royals will play in this competition.
As the names of the teams suggest, the owners of all six franchises also have a team in the IPL. However, the Royal Challengers Bangalore do not have a team in SA20. RCB decided to save up their funds last year and did not bid for the teams in USA, UAE as well as South Africa’s leagues. Instead, they invested in a franchise of the Women’s Premier League.
While the Royal Challengers Bangalore stayed away from South Africa’s number one T20 league, their team’s players are playing in this competition. Here’s a list of three current RCB players who will play in the upcoming season.
1. RCB captain Faf du Plessis is skipper of Joburg Super Kings in SA20 2024
The biggest name from the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, who is playing in South Africa’s T20 league is Faf du Plessis. He has been the captain of the RCB team since the 2022 season. In 2023, Joburg Super Kings appointed him the captain of their side. He continues to be the skipper in 2024 as well.
2. Will Jacks
Batting all-rounder Will Jacks could not play any matches for RCB in IPL 2023 due to injury. The Bangalore-based franchise have retained him for the 2024 season. Jacks has been performing well in other T20 leagues. He will play for the Pretoria Capitals in South Africa.
3. Reece Topley
Fast bowler Reece Topley has also been retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2024 at the price of INR 1.9 crore. Topley gets injured every now and then, but his left-arm pace has helped him earn contracts from many teams. One of those teams is SA20’s Durban Super Giants.
