Romario Shepherd has been traded by the Lucknow Super Giants to the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 season. This is the first official trade to take place before the IPL 2024 Auction. All fans are busy with the 2023 World Cup right now, but the Mumbai Indians team management was focused on finalizing the trade.
The five-time IPL champions made the big announcement on social media earlier today that Romario Shepherd will play for them in the upcoming season. Many fans were confused after seeing MI’s announcement because they have roped in the likes of Quinton de Kock, Jayant Yadav and even Trent Boult in the trade window in the past.

1. Mumbai Indians already have Chris Jordan in the squad
Chris Jordan and Shepherd are two such bowlers who have a habit of leaking runs in the death overs. With Jordan already present in the squad as an overseas bowling all-rounder, MI have locked up another foreign spot for a player who plays a similar role. Hence, it seems to be a wrong decision right now.
2. Mumbai Indians have a talented set of pacers
Shepherd is a right-arm pacer, who can also hit a few big shots with the bat whenever needed. Mumbai Indians already have a talented set of Indian pacers, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Madhwal, Jofra Archer and Riley Meredith present. Thus, Shepherd may not even get proper game time.
3. A spinner could have been traded instead of Romario Shepherd
Spin is not the strongest point of the Mumbai Indians team in the IPL right now. They only had Piyush Chawla, Hrithik Shokeen and Kumar Kartikeya Singh as frontline spin options last season. A spinner like Adam Zampa or even Amit Mishra from LSG could have been a better choice.
