MS Dhoni is one of the biggest names in world cricket. The legendary wicketkeeper batter has won the 2011 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy and 2007 T20 World Cup as captain. Besides, he led Chennai Super Kings to five IPL championships and two Champions League T20 trophies.
Although MS Dhoni is a legend, he is all set to play as an ‘uncapped’ player in IPL 2025 because the Governing Council has brought back an old rule. As per the rule, if a senior Indian cricketer has not played any international match in last five years and he has not been centrally contracted by BCCI either in these five years, then he will be eligible to play in IPL as an uncapped player.
This results in two benefits for the franchises. They can retain the player for just INR 4 crore, and if the player goes in the auction pool, his base price will be the lowest. While many fans think that IPL has brought this rule back only for Dhoni, here are three other senior Indian players who will benefit from this.
1. Sandeep Sharma will be an uncapped player like MS Dhoni
Experienced fast bowler Sandeep Sharma has been a reliable death bowler for the Rajasthan Royals. He has proven himself as a game-changer. Considering that Sharma last played for India back in the year 2015, he will be an uncapped player in IPL 2025.
2. Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla was a part of the 2007 T20 WC and 2011 WC winning squads under Dhoni’s captaincy. The veteran leg-spinner played his last game for India back in the year 2012. He had a decent season with Mumbai Indians last year, and this year, he will be available as an uncapped player.
3. Amit Mishra
Another seasoned Indian leg-spinner to feature on the list is Amit Mishra. The leg-spinner last featured for India in the blue jersey back in the year 2017. He turned up for Lucknow Super Giants last season, and he can register as an uncapped player this year.
