The reverse countdown to ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has started. BCCI has decided against touring Pakistan for the mega event, which is why the ICC will conduct their matches in the United Arab Emirates. The much-awaited India vs Pakistan match will happen on February 23 in Dubai.
India will soon announce their squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Rohit Sharma should be the captain of the team, and there should be the World Cup 2023 stars in the team, namely Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami.
There might be a couple of surprises in the squad as well. Here are three unexpected names who might make it to India’s squad for the mega event in Pakistan and UAE.
1. Washington Sundar can make the cut to ICC Champions Trophy 2025
In case you forgot, Ravindra Jadeja did not get to play a single ODI match for India in 2024. Perhaps, the team management is looking beyond Jadeja in the 50-over format, and the best man to replace him is Washington Sundar, who has a lot of experience of playing in the UAE.
2. Ishan Kishan
Explosive wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan has not played for India in ODIs after the 2023 World Cup. Kishan is best known for the half-century he scored against Pakistan in the rain-affected group stage match of Asia Cup 2023. The wicketkeeper deserves a place in the Champions Trophy squad.
3. Prasidh Krishna
Fast bowlers have achieved success in matches played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami will likely be the first-choice picks in the squad. As a backup, the selectors can also take Prasidh Krishna to UAE because of his impressive record in the 50-over format.
