Zimbabwe is currently playing a three-match ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the star-studded Indian cricket team. It is the first series between the two countries since 2016. Zimbabwean cricket has seen many ups and downs since then. Very few Zimbabwean players have got chances to be a part of the IPL.
The Indian Premier League is the grandest T20 league in the world, and it is the dream of almost every cricketer to become a part of the IPL one day. In a recent interview, Zimbabwean player Innocent Kaia said that he is praying that he performs well against India so that he gets a chance to play in the IPL.
Earlier this year, Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani was a part of the Lucknow Super Giants team as a net bowler. Three other Zimbabwean players have been a part of the main squads in the leagues. Here’s a list of those three names.
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad signed Brendan Taylor in 2014
Former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad roped in Zimbabwean wicket-keeper batter Brendan Taylor for the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League. Taylor was one of the top batters in the Zimbabwean team. However, SRH did not ask him to join the squad. He reportedly stayed in Zimbabwe throughout the season as SRH did not need his services.
2. Ray Price played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2011
Former Zimbabwean left-arm spin bowler Ray Price joined the Mumbai Indians for the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League. Price played only one match in the league, where he failed to take wickets against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Subsequently, MI released him.
3. Tatenda Taibu
Former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu received a contract from the Kolkata Knight Riders in the initial seasons of the league. He played three matches, scoring 31 runs for KKR.
