IPL 2024 is well underway now, with almost all teams playing five matches each. The home teams were quite dominant in the first phase of the tournament, but as the competition has progressed, teams have improved their record away from home as well.
The previous IPL tournament happened in 2023, and generally, the players who perform well in the previous season generally receive backing from the team management in the next season. However, here’s a list of four such players who performed well in the 2023 season but are struggling to find a place in the playing XII for the 2024 season.
1. Rajvardhan Hangargekar took a 3-wicket haul for CSK in IPL 2023
Pace-bowling all-rounder Rajvardhan Hangargekar was quite impressive for the Chennai Super Kings last season. He made his debut against the Gujarat Titans at a jam-packed Narendra Modi Stadium and returned with three wickets. However, he is yet to play a match this season.
2. Rilee Rossouw has not played any matches in IPL 2024
Rilee Rossouw scored a magnificent half-century for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023. He had a strike rate of around 150, while his batting average was the second-best in the team. This year, Rossouw is warming the benches at the Punjab Kings.
3. Josh Little has not played a single game in IPL 2024
Gujarat Titans backed Josh Little in IPL 2023 and regularly picked him in their playing XI. However, with the arrival of Spencer Johnson in the 2024 season, Little has become the second-choice. He is yet to don the GT jersey this season.
4. Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Kolkata Knight Riders roped in Phil Salt as a replacement for Jason Roy, and that closed the doors for Gurbaz in the playing XII. Gurbaz aggregated 227 runs in 11 matches last season, smacking two half-centuries.
