Gujarat Lions were active in the IPL for two years. While they had a good run in IPL 2016, they could not deliver in 2017. Here, we take a look at the list of four former Gujarat Lions cricketers who became coaches in the IPL.
Some of the former GL cricketers such as Ishan Kishan have gone on to play for the country. Some of them got the chance to feature as a coach.
1) Brendon McCullum is one of the former Gujarat Lions cricketers
McCullum was the Head Coach of KKR for a few years. He did not have a memorable stint. Later, he became the Head Coach of the England Test side. This was a remarkable move for him as he was able to revolutionize Test cricket for England under his guidance. It needs to be seen if he would deliver further for the nation.
2) Dwayne Bravo
Dwayne Bravo is one of the former Gujarat Lions cricketers who became coaches in the IPL. After his retirement, Bravo became the bowling coach of Chennai Super Kings. He has been able to do a good job as CSK won the title in IPL 2023. Some of the young pacers have honed their skills under him.
3) Dale Steyn is also one of the former Gujarat Lions cricketers
It is at SRH that Dale Steyn took up his first coaching stint. He is currently the fast-bowling coach of the side. Steyn has been responsible for the impressive displays of Umran Malik. The likes of Marco Jansen have also done well under him.
4) Pravin Tambe
Pravin Tambe is also one of the former Gujarat Lions cricketers who became coaches in the IPL. Currently, he is involved with LSG but the leg-spinner has also had stints at other franchises. Tambe also played a lot of overseas league cricket before he retired.
