Virat Kohli completed 11 years in Test cricket earlier today. The right-handed batter made his Test debut for India 11 years ago in a match against the West Indies cricket team at Kingston in Jamaica. The Indian cricket team won that match by 63 runs, with current head coach Rahul Dravid winning the Player of the Match award.
Many players made their debut after Kohli, but not all of them could make it big. Some are still in the Indian squad, some have been dropped, while the following three bowlers have already announced their retirement from Test cricket, having made their Test debuts after Virat.
1. Vinay Kumar made his Test debut after Virat Kohli
Former Indian fast bowler R Vinay Kumar made his Test debut against the Australian cricket team during the 2011/12 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While Vinay played multiple matches for the Men in Blue in the white-ball formats, he could play only one Test match for the Indian cricket team. Vinay has retired now and works as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians.
2. Stuart Binny made his Test debut after Virat Kohli
Former Indian all-rounder Stuart Binny received his maiden Test cap during the tour of England in 2014. Binny played six Test matches during his career. He even played under the captaincy of Virat during his career.
3. Naman Ojha
Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Naman Ojha played only one Test match in his international career. That appearance came under Virat Kohli’s captaincy back in 2015. Ojha scored 56 runs in that game.
4. Pankaj Singh
Pankaj Singh played for India on the tour of England in 2014. The right-arm pace bowler played in two matches, where he scalped two wickets. Singh’s best bowling figures were 2/113. Despite having excellent record in domestic cricket, he could not make it big in the international arena.
