India will soon play a two-match ICC World Test Championship series against the West Indies cricket team. This will be the first time since 2019 that the two teams clash in the longest format of the game. The last time India and West Indies clashed in a Test series was in August-September 2019, where the Indian team emerged victorious by 2-0.
It was the first-ever World Test Championship series for the Indian cricket team. Playing under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India beat the West Indies comfortably and got 100% points from the two matches. Now in 2023, India will open their WTC season three campaign against West Indies. Here’s a look at the four players who played against WI in 2019 but are nowhere near the Indian team now.
1. Hanuma Vihari scored a hundred in Test series against West Indies in 2019
Middle-order batter Hanuma Vihari smashed a 111-run knock in the second Test of that tour at Sabina Park. He also recorded a half-century in the second innings. However, Vihari has not received an opportunity to play in recent months.
2. Mayank Agarwal opened for India against West Indies in Test series of 2019
Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul opened the batting for India in that series. Agarwal last played for India in a Test against Sri Lanka last year at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He has been dropped for a long time now.
3. Wriddhiman Saha
Soon after Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma took over the reins of the team, Wriddhiman Saha was informed that he would not be considered for the Test format. Saha was in the Indian squad for the away series against WI in 2019.
4. Ishant Sharma
Veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma is another senior player on this list. Sharma played his last Test against New Zealand at Kanpur in 2021. It seems highly unlikely that the tall pacer will make a comeback to the Test squad.
