Cricket World Cup 2023 will happen in India later this year. The BCCI and ICC are yet to announce the schedule for the mega event, but the 12 venues which will host the matches have been shortlisted. Even the venue for the final match is reportedly decided, with Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium likely to host the summit clash of the World Cup.
Apart from final, the other match which generates interest among the fans is the match between India and Pakistan. According to Cricbuzz, Chennai and Delhi are among the candidates to host that game. Then, there will be two semifinal matches. Here’s a list of the four venues which may get to host the semifinals.
1. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
Wankhede Stadium hosted the final match of ICC World Cup 2011 and semifinal match between India and West Indies during ICC T20 World Cup 2016. Fans always show up in large numbers at the venue in Mumbai, which is why it may get the hosting rights of semifinals.
2. Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Eden Gardens did not get to host a semifinal or final in 2011 World Cup, but the iconic stadium hosted the final of 2016 T20 World Cup. It is a historic stadium, and it will likely be among the candidates to host the big semifinal.
3. M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium is known for its electric crowd and atmosphere. The pitch in Bengaluru has produced many entertaining matches. India and England played a thrilling tie in Bengaluru in 2011, while India beat Bangladesh by one run on this ground in 2016 T20 World Cup.
4. Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, Lucknow
Chennai and Delhi will be in the race as well, but since one of the two stadiums may get India vs Pakistan match, the other one can host semifinal. A wildcard candidate will also be Lucknow’s beautiful stadium.
