Gujarat Titans surprised the cricket universe by winning the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. After the mega auction ended, not many fans gave a chance to GT, but the Ahmedabad-based franchise played to their full potential and captured the IPL 2022 trophy.

Captain Hardik Pandya was the star performer for the team. Along with him, drafted players Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan stole the show in the GT jersey, while David Miller roared back to form with the best season of his IPL career. Mohammed Shami, Rahul Tewatia, Wriddhiman Saha, Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph won matches for GT as well.

But there were a few players who could not match the expectations in IPL 2022. Here’s a list of four players Gujarat may release before IPL 2023.

    1. Gujarat Titans may release Vijay Shankar

Vijay Shankar had yet another forgettable season in the league. GT showed faith in him and allotted him the number three position, but he scored only 19 runs in four matches at an average of less than five. With the ball, he bowled only 1.3 overs at an economy rate of 10.

    2. Gujarat Titans may release Matthew Wade

With Jason Roy likely to play in IPL 2023, Gujarat will need a vacant overseas spot. Rahmanullah Gurbaz is still young, which is why he might be retained, but GT may let go of Matthew Wade, who scored only 157 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of less than 115.

    3. Varun Aaron

Varun Aaron played only two games for GT, conceding 52 runs in five overs. He did take two wickets, but because of his injury issues, Gujarat may release him.

    4. Darshan Nalkande

Another fast bowler to feature on the list is Darshan Nalkande, who took two wickets in two matches at an economy rate of 11.41. It will be interesting to see if GT retain him.
