IPL 2024 will be the grandest edition of the Indian Premier League. With 10 teams, all having star-studded lineups, the upcoming season promises to be an entertaining one. However, as always, there might be some retirements from the league as well.
Greats like Suresh Raina, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu, Dale Steyn and several others have ended their IPL careers in recent years. It would be an emotional moment for fans, but the following five players could also retire after IPL 2024.
1. IPL 2024 can be the last season of MS Dhoni
No cricket fan wants to see this day, but there is a strong possibility of 2024 being the last season of MS Dhoni’s career. It would mark 20 years since his debut for India, and a title win would be the perfect way to retire. Here’s what Dhoni said at the end of IPL 2023:
“If you see circumstantially, this is the best time for me to announce my retirement. The easy thing for me would be to say I’ll be back but I have to put in the effort for 8-9 months. The body has to hold up. I’ve got so much support, so I feel like if I can be back, it will be my gift to them.”
2. Amit Mishra might say goodbye to IPL after 2024 season
Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra made a return to IPL last year as a part of LSG squad. He will continue playing for them in 2024. Considering Mishra is 41 and also working as a commentator, he can think of retiring.
3. Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav is not a part of any team in 2024, but he is available as a replacement. Considering age factor and decline in form, Jadhav may think of announcing retirement after the season.
4. Ben Cutting
Like Kedar Jadhav, Ben Cutting remained unsold at this season’s auction. The Australian all-rounder is available as a replacement. It might be the last time he is available as a player.
