Rohit Sharma became the full-time captain of the Indian cricket team in the shortest format of the game after the culmination of ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Virat Kohli announced before the tournament even started that the T20 World Cup 2021 will be his last tournament as the captain of the Indian T20I captain.
Soon after, Kohli also stepped down as the captain of the Test and ODI teams. While the Indian Test and ODI squads have not undergone major changes after Rohit Sharma took over, some of the T20I stars have disappeared from the setup after the captaincy change. Here’s a list of four such players.
1. Varun Chakravarthy is yet to play for India under Rohit Sharma
Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy played three matches for the Indian cricket team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He could not take any wickets in those three games. After that, Sharma became the captain and Varun is yet to play a match for India.
2. Mohammed Shami
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami took a couple of three-wicket hauls for India in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. However, he has not donned the Indian T20I jersey after the fixture against Namibia.
3. Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur has played only one T20I for India after Rohit became the full-time skipper. He took two wickets in that game, but the team management did not give him another opportunity to play for the nation in the shortest format of the game after that game.
4. Rahul Chahar is yet to play for India under Rohit Sharma
Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar achieved much success while playing for the Mumbai Indians under Rohit. However, he was dropped from the Indian T20I squad after Rohit became the full-time skipper. Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal have taken his place as the leg-spinner.
