It is rare to see a player being dropped from the playing XI after he played a great knock in his previous innings. The batters generally retain their place in the match squad if they touch the 50-run mark in a match where their place seems to be in danger. However, some unlucky cricketers were dropped from the playing XI even after they scored a 200 in their last match.
Scoring a 200 in a cricket match is not everyone’s cup of tea. Irrespective of Test or ODI format, a double hundred is one of the toughest things to achieve in the international arena. However, luck does not favor everyone. In this article now, we will look at four such cricketers who were dropped from playing XI despite scoring a 200 in their last match.
1. Ishan Kishan scored 200 in his last ODI match
Ishan Kishan became the first player to be dropped from an ODI playing XI despite registering a double hundred in his last game. Playing against Bangladesh, Kishan played a match-winning knock of 210 runs. However, he lost his place in the playing XI to Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma for the next ODI of India against Sri Lanka.
2. Jason Gillespie scored 200 in his last Test match
Jason Gillespie was one of the top fast bowlers of the Australian cricket team during his prime. He achieved the feat of scoring a double hundred against Bangladesh in Bangladesh. Very few players from Australia have achieved the milestone, but Gillespie was dropped from the team.
3. Aravinda de Silva
Another player who scored a double hundred against Bangladesh and then got dropped was Sri Lanka’s Aravinda de Silva. The Sri Lankan player played a knock of 246 runs against Bangladesh in 2002 before being dropped.
4. Geoffrey Boycott
